- Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Unique opportunity in private outpatient behavioral health clinic in Ann Arbor, MI. Hourly position,15-25 hrs per week.
OVERVIEW
Ann Arbor Consultation Services is the largest private outpatient behavioral services provider in Washtenaw County. We are currently looking for a highly skilled psychiatric nurse practitioner to join our psychiatric services team.
This is a great opportunity for a specialist who enjoys working independently and with a team. As a primary psychiatric provider you will have responsibility for the diagnosis, treatment planning/medication management of a diverse group of primarily highly functioning patients (including adults, adolescents, children and families). 98 per cent are insured, mostly HMOs. Please note that we do not accept Medicaid products.
The most common presenting diagnoses in our clinic are major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, anxiety disorders, adjustment disorders, ADHD, OCD, substance abuse/dependence, and bipolar disorder.
Your primary responsibility along with our 3 psychiatrists is to diagnose and provide medication management for patients referred by any of our 36 LMSW and PhD therapists. The majority of your time will be spent in direct care. This year psychiatric service providers billed 14% initial evaluations (90801) and 86% medication management (90862). There will be adequate time for paperwork, consultation with our psychiatric services team and clinical staff as well as collaboration with community providers. This position requires previous experience and skill to provide excellent care with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide behavioral health services within the scope and practice as defined by the Michigan Nurses Association's Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners.
2. Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an effective and efficient treatment program that will appropriately meet the needs of patients utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA
3. Secure comprehensive health histories, perform or request special diagnostic and laboratory tests, interpret test results, and develop comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans
4. Provide mental health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans in identified areas; provide medication management for patients; and maintain appropriate health records
5. Prescribe pharmaceutical therapy consistent with medical evaluation, treatment plan and current standards of practice
6. Refer clients for more specialized or inpatient interventions as clinical situations dictate
7. Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment
8. Maintain appropriate files; develop and follow through on treatment plans within organizational guidelines; and prepare reports on the clinical management of patients
9. Maintain quality care through participation in peer review, policy development and quality improvement programs
10. Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical and counseling services, including all necessary billing information
11. Ensure accurate and consistent use of encounter forms for all client contacts with behavioral health providers to ensure accurate billing of third party resources
12. Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees
13. Other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Previous experience assessing and providing medication management for patients with behavioral health disorders in a psychiatric or primary care setting. Experience with adults, adolescents and children preferred.
2. Working knowledge and experience assessing and treating adults/adolescents with alcohol and other drug abuse/dependence
3. Expert clinical judgment and the ability to be self-directed and demonstrate initiative in an expanded role
4. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving and conflict resolution
5. Effective oral and written communication with staff, patients and community providers.
REQUIREMENTS
1. State of Michigan Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License
2. State of Michigan Nurse Specialty Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
3. National certification in Advanced Practice Nursing Specialty
4. Registered with the State of Michigan and DEA for prescription writing privileges
5. Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited nurse practitioner training program
6. Past experience (two years) as a nurse practitioner in an outpatient practice setting
COMPENSATION
$40 to $50 per hour
HOURS
15 to 25 hours per week, days and times are negotiable. Some evening hours are expected.

Core Requirements
*2 years full cycle medical billing in an outpatient setting
*Working knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-9CM coding and Windows based computerized billing systems e.g. Centricity
*Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments in an efficient manner
*Consistent, accurate data entry
*Proficient use of Microsoft Excel/Word
*Strong verbal and written communication skills
*Demonstrated history of following instructions to ensure accurate, timely billing based on company procedures and payer requirements
*Respectful, knowledge based customer service skills
*Experience with psychiatric practice/coding, BCN, BCBS, Priority Health billing
Additional Requirements
*Experience as medical receptionist/front office staff
*Ability to perform front office/receptionist functions including
*Answering/routing calls that have opted out of our automated phone answering system, managing several calls simultaneously
*Checking patients in, accepting payments, scheduling appointments
*Ability to multitask and stay focused
*Ability to mesh with a high functioning, cross-trained front office team
*Great telephone/customer service skills
